I have seen both 好像 hao3 xiang4 and 好象 hao3 xiang4 used. They are different characters but
the same pronunciation and apparently the same meaning (as if, seem, be like) according to the...

Taipei at least uses pinyin on official signs rather consistently, and now that Ma is to be
president perhaps he will expand this policy (one can hope...). Writing from left to right is

That would be nice. Make people choose for themselves. The downside is that this would mean
educating children in not one but two difficult scripts. But it would be nice if every publisher
and paper...

Because until recently, all texts were writting mostly in traditional characters, with the odd
simplified one. If you only ever learn simplified, you're going to have trouble reading very old
books.

Mandarin is one of the easiest language with a very difficult writing system.



I would say anything from a few hours up to 2 days. It's an alphabet with 50 or so letters. Sure
you won't understand...

For me the most annoying thing is the scoring algorithm - if I understood it correctly, that is. I
like to dump any new words that I see to ZDT and then start learning them whenever I have time....

I found an interesting feature by accident: I did a dictionary search for "xang4" and ZDT returned
the results for "ang4". Likewise, "xang1" returned results for "ang1". This is with the search...
